There are zero coffee grounds in the coffee, and the only thing that happens is the powder from the grounds settles on the bottom and stays there unless you stir it up. One of the drawbacks of this pitcher is it leaks grounds and needs to be filtered before drinking. The glass is very thin, making washing it by hand a tough chore.
