Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question:
What is batik?
Answer: Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to plain cloth. -
Question:
Can the tjantings be cleaned?
Answer: Yes, they can be cleaned with soap and warm water. -
Question:
Is this set suitable for beginners?
Answer: Yes, this set is easy to use, and therefore, ideal for beginners. -
Question:
How do you fill pens?
Answer: You fill the pens by dipping the end into the melted wax. -
Question:
How do you unclog these pens?
Answer: I haven't had a problem of clogging. I just sit it in the hot wax for a bit and it is ready to go. -
Question:
Does anyone use some sort of support for putting the tool down while full of wax/ink etc, and if so what do you use?
Answer: I usually just put it back in my wax pot. I only have it out when I am using it in my fabric -
Question:
Do these come with instructions for use?
Answer: I didn't find any instructions in box. I am using it to apply soy wax to 100% cotton fabric. I have a design that will be outlined with the wax which is melted in the little bowl of the tool. Hold it over a candle to melt the wax chips. I am told this wax removes easily scraping it off with a credit card, etc. Once applied to fabric, paint the design and the wax resists the paint wherever it is applied. -
Question:
I am looking for a tool that makes a very fine line- will one of these work?
Answer: There are four different tips. It does make a fine line but not superfine. -
Question:
Do you heat pens, or just put hot wax in them.
Answer: No, please do not heat pens. Wax is heated separately in a metal pot, then dip the pens into the molten wax and partially fill the tjanting with wax. Use a rag to cover the spout when you want to stop the wax from running. Best is to search online for more detailed instructions of how to properly use a tjanting. Thank you for your enquiry. -
Question:
What kind of wax is needed?
Answer: Clean beewax or paraffin wax are good for making batik. -
Question:
Has anyone used these pens/tools for Pysanky or Ukranian egg decorating, please? Good or not good?
Answer: I would say no unless u have experience with this tool. It's very hard to control the flow of wax.
