The paper pad has a rough surface that holds several layers of chalk pastel well but is reportedly terrible for pastel sticks and pan pastels. Customers have reported difficulty in blending the background and getting a crazed checkerboard pattern with dry pastels. In comparison to a leading brand, Canson, the paper is said to have similar quality for use with both chalk and oil pastels.
