The case is made of hard plastic that is textured for a better grip. It allows the phone to slide in from one direction and once in the holder, it does not slide out on its own. The phone can be held upside down or shaken without moving or coming out of the holder. A screen protector is fine as long as it is the thin film type, as the thick hard plastic version may interfere. The U-shaped metal piece under the plastic belt clip can be used as a kickstand with some phone/case models, but this case model has a kickstand built into the case itself. A screen facing outward while mounted in the holster is not recommended as the case is meant to protect the screen. While not touted as rugged, the case can hold up pretty well to drops and is a suitable device for average phone use.
