It can be used to count cars, sound an alarm or activate a strobe light when the beam is broken. It has five wires, blue and brown are power, and White is common. Grey is for normally closed (NC), black for normally open (NO). It has a large spectrum to reflect IR and does not require a larger reflector. However, there is a potential risk of a fire if it overheats or if the circuit remains open for too long. The unit is forgiving as far as power is concerned and can be used with a 12-volt battery; but it has no control over any other device. One reviewer stated that their device still works well even after being submerged in saltwater for five hours.
