There is no need for salt treatment to break it in, and it is recommended to clean the mat with vinegar and water mixed solution. The mixed color side is suggested to be the top, but the bottom also has a super grippy texture. The mat is made in Taiwan and is reasonably priced. However, the strong rubber smell from the mat may linger for several days after initial use.
