Question:
Does the product have any odor?
Answer: Yes, the product has a distinctive styrene odor, so it is recommended to use it in a well-ventilated area. However, no odor is given off once it is fully cured. -
Question:
How long does it take to cure in sunlight?
Answer: The cure time in sunlight may vary based on geographic placement above the equator, season, and weather, but it usually cures 3-5 minutes per 1/2 inch of resin. -
Question:
Is MEKP catalyst required?
Answer: MEKP catalyst is included in the package but only required for projects deeper than 1/2 inch. For thicker molds or difficult casts, add 2% MEKP, which will still provide faster curing than epoxy resins with an average of 25-30 minutes. -
Question:
If I apply it on a painting/collage will it coat and dry and give it a hard and clear appearance?
Answer: Yes it will. Apply a thin coat and additional thin coats if necessary. Use this outside as it smells terrible. The painting will need time to air out. -
Question:
Does anyone have any solutions for the orange peel looking ripples?
Answer: Yes, irradiate for 10 seconds and then turn off or shadow the light source. Allow 30 seconds to "rest". Repeat for about 5 times, enough to total 3-5 minutes. Starting with COLD resin will help too. Another way is to add 2% MEKP catalyst and let it sit for 10 minutes. -
Question:
What surfaces can I or cannot use Solarez on such as wood, paper, etc.?
Answer: It can be used on wood and silicon molds. Paper has never been tried but keep in mind that it might get soggy. -
Question:
Is this the best of Solarez for doming jewelry or did Solarez release another resin for that?
Answer: No, there are four DOMING RESINS. However, if you want to encapsulate glitter or pearlescents into your resins, this resin would be better as it is a "dual-cure" resin. If you have a part that obscures light or casts shadows, the CASTING resin will be better too. The other thing the casting resin does better is to allow a very large mass of resin to cure slowly. -
Question:
If after curing, the material along with the sealed glass pieces is heated to 100 degree C, will this sealant remain stable or will it melt?
Answer: 100°C should be okay, but avoid exceeding 250°F for an extended period of time. -
Question:
What is the cured hardness?
Answer: It is hard enough to drill, sand, and polish. Polyester resins are very tough once cured. -
Question:
Can I use Solarez on clay figures made of cold porcelain to finish and protect them?
Answer: It has been used on polymer clay, but not on porcelain clay. Use a UV lamp rather than natural sunlight. -
Question:
Can I use this on tumblers?
Answer: No, this is not suitable for repairing broken tumblers. -
Question:
Is this resin acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or something else?
Answer: Something else. -
Question:
Can I use Solarez to make grave stones for my in-laws graves and my grandparents?
Answer: It is not recommended, especially for what you are aiming for.
