Answer: Not sure about chemical burn issue. Acetic acid is the main component of vinegar. It can be used to seal the carafe, but precautions should be taken. Good luck! -

It can be used to seal surfaces around kitchen sinks and faucets, fix cracks in plastic, and even make glass pitchers watertight again. The silicone sealer is also suitable for sealing tiny holes and drying clear to a rubbery Consistency that maintains its insulating and fastening properties. Users found that the product cured quickly (even in temperatures as low as 40F) and was a good electrical insulator. However, use with plenty of ventilation and time to air out the used area after application is recommended due to a strong and noxious odor. There were a few reported issues with the tube hardening over time, the color not turning clear after setting, and the sealant smelling like vinegar.
